Seattle Seahawks vs. Atlanta Falcons Preview

The opening week of the 2012-2013 NFL Playoffs featured a few tense moments, but all in all it ended up being games that didn’t feature much drama throughout. The only real game that had a whole lot of drama was the Seattle Seahawks against the Washington Redskins. The Seahawks were able to overcome a 14-0 deficit early in the first quarter to get the win in Washington, while the Redskins saw their star rookie quarterback in a whole lot of pain after partially tearing his ACL. Robert Griffin III’s team may not be playing anymore, but Russell Wilson, another incredibly impressive rookie has led his team into a second round playoff match-up against the top seed in the NFC in the Atlanta Falcons and Matt Ryan. Impressive doesn’t begin to describe Wilson and the Seahawks throughout the later parts of this season, but the Falcons are ready to prove that this is their year, and they’ll be at home in front of a fired up crowd. Kickoff for this one is on Sunday at 1pm EST in Atlanta.

Lynch and Wilson Leading the Way

The Seahawks are led by their great combo of rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, and the talented running back Marshawn Lynch. Lynch had a great game against the Redskins last weekend, and he’s going to be a huge part of their offense against Atlanta. One key part of the game though is going to be the Seattle secondary, as they are going to be up against two ridiculously talented wideouts in Roddy White and Julio Jones. If the Seattle secondary can slow down Julio and Roddy then they could pull off the road upset on Sunday. Expect them to key in on these two, leaving Tony Gonzalez to have to make some plays.

Falcons Starting Super Bowl Charge

The Falcons offense is dominated with passing, even though they do use Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers a bit. I think that the sleeper for the Falcons in this game is going to be Rodgers. He’s a very quick running back who can catch a good number of passes out of the back field. He’ll play a large role in the game, and while the Seahawks will key in on Roddy White and Julio Jones, the Falcons will look to other options like Rodgers. I’m expecting Matt Ryan to play in this one like he has a chip on his shoulder, which could result in him putting up some big numbers on Sunday afternoon.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Atlanta Falcons Betting Prediction

The Atlanta Falcons come into this game as -2.5 favorites. Not everyone is buying into this Falcons team. Even though they had a great season, many people feel that they are going to have another early playoff exit this year. While the Seahawks are playing great football, I think that Atlanta is going to be able to get the job done and get past that dreaded first round playoff exit on Sunday. Matt Ryan has been playing like a veteran for the bulk of this season, and it’ll continue into the post season. I do expect Roddy White and Julio Jones to find a way to get past these Seahawks’ cornerbacks and have solid games. I’m taking a close one, but I think that the Falcons are going to win it by four when all is said and done. Final score will be Falcons 28 and Seahawks 20 with the Falcons covering the -2.5 spread.
