Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears Preview

Monday Night Football is one of the most bet games each week it seems, regardless of which two teams are playing in the game. This week we have a huge game though between NFC North rivals in the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears. These two teams have had some interesting games, including last year when Calvin Johnson had the touchdown “catch” that was overturned resulting in a Bears win. Now the two teams are going to meet for the first time in 2012-2013 and it will be played in Chicago on prime time television, making it a tough one for the Lions. The Bears are off to a hot start as well, sitting at 4-1 overall after their bye week, while the Lions have sputtered a bit from last season’s impressive record, and are just 2-3 overall. Big game for both teams, and kickoff is set for 8:30pm EST on Monday night.

Lions Struggles Over?

The Lions struggles have been a little bit of everything. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson have been slowed just a bit by opposing defenses, and it seems that Stafford has been forced into making passes that he doesn’t typically make. They have to keep the turnovers down in order to beat the Bears on the road, and another huge question is about the Lions defense and whether or not they can get pressure on Jay Cutler or not. If they can pressure Cutler there’s a chance that they can force key turnovers which could lead to points that they are going to have to work for on Monday.

The Bears Are For Real

The Bears have just been impressive, flat out. They had one tough against the Green Bay Packers early in the season, but have gotten on a roll since that point. The Bears defense has been causing turnovers constantly, while their offense hasn’t turned the ball over much, something that not many teams can say. I’m interested to see the combination of Matt Forte and Michael Bush on prime time television on Monday night to see how it works. The Bears have some serious weapons on offense in Forte, Bush, and Brandon Marshall, and we’ll have to see if they can keep taking advantage of the mismatches.

Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears Betting Prediction

The betting odds on this game have the Bears as -6.5 favorites. This is a pretty big line for a divisional rivalry, but the Bears have pretty much earned it to this point. They’ve played excellent, while the Lions have had quite a few questions that they’ve had to answer. Hopefully they can play big this week, or else the Bears could be in for a big night at home. I do think that Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are in store for a big day, against a Bears’ secondary that I just don’t trust yet. I think that the Bears are going to be able to pull out the win, but that it’ll be much closer than people think it’s going to be. Expect a three or four point win for the Bears, something like 28-24. Our picks include taking the Lions +6.5 and the Over in this game.
